Who we are
Relationships Australia is one of Australia’s largest community-based, not-for-profit organisations providing relationship support to people regardless of age, religion, gender, sexual orientation, lifestyle choice, or cultural or economic background. We are a national, values-based organisation that has no religious affiliation.
We are committed to enhancing the lives of communities, families and individuals and supporting positive and respectful relationships. We have a federated structure with large autonomous member organisations in every State and Territory plus a national office based in Canberra.
Since 1948 we have been helping Australians to build positive relationships through our highly skilled, qualified staff. Most clients seek our services to help strengthen and build relationships or resolve relationship breakdown issues.
Relationships Australia delivers a wide range of services, including counselling, family dispute resolution, relationships education and parenting skills training, men and family relationships programs, specialised family violence programs, early intervention services, child-focussed programs and practices, and programs which specifically engage indigenous and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) families, groups and communities. We frequently partner local community organisations, for instance building capacity through training.
In 2006-07, Relationships Australia's 800 staff provided family and community support services to over 100,000 clients from over 200 outlets in city, suburban, regional, rural and remote locations across Australia - from Port Hedland to Palm Island to Bass Strait Islands.
In the last financial year over 60% of our funding came from the Australian Government through the Family Relationship Services Program (FRSP). This funding is supplemented through client fees, our training programs, state and territory government support, sales of publications, sponsorships, donations and other sources.
