Youth Diversion Program - NT

The Youth Diversion Program operates within the restorative justice paradigm, providing an alternative to the more formal court processes.

The diversion process is voluntary and the candidate is assessed by the case manager before being accepted into the program. If successful, the young person must attend a youth justice conference.

Outcomes can be in the form of community service, or commitment to restoring the harm done to others. A key tenet of restorative justice is including both victims and offenders in the process of restoration. This has shown to be the most effective and useful alternative to a court appearance.
