Telephone Counselling – NT

This service reaches people who are isolated either geographically or due to physical or other circumstance and are unable to attend any of our centres. This is an opportunity to access counselling which is both affordable and of the highest standard.

To access our telephone relationship counselling service you need to be more than 100 kilometres from an approved marriage and family service.

Appointments are necessary as with our other services. The telephone number for remote areas around Darwin is 1300 364 277 (cost of a local call).  For remote areas around Alice Springs the telephone number is FREE CALL 1800 634 405

What to expect when you call

1. At the first call, our receptionist will determine the type of service you require (eg. counselling). It costs you nothing to make the initial call to find out about our service.
2. An appointment can then be made for you to speak with one of our counsellors at a later time.
3. At the agreed appointment time, your counsellor will be ready for your call and will be available to speak for an hour with you, or with you and your partner.
4. The counsellors will be totally and exclusively available to you for that hour.
5. At the end of the session you will be able to make another appointment with the same counsellor.
6. There will be a negotiated fee for counselling time, just as there is with people who come in person for counselling. Fees for counselling are set according to income and are negotiable.
7. The counselling is confidential and provided by fully-qualified counsellors.
8. The Telephone Counselling Service also provides information and can direct callers to other available services and Relationships Australia centres.
9. The service is NOT a crisis line. If the caller is in immediate need, every effort is made to connect the caller to the appropriate crisis service.
