Personal Support Programme - SA
Our Personal Support Programme helps clients referred by Centrelink to deal with personal issues that may be making it difficult for them to gain employment.
Each participant has their own personal goal that can include things like finding work, entering study, making friends or strengthening family relationships. We offer them the support to reach their own goals.
We offer a one-on-one helping relationship for up to two years, which can include:
- Counselling
- Group work
- Advocacy
- Crisis support
- Practical support (like helping participants to move, or trips to the doctor)
- Vocational guidance
- Help with finding and getting into courses (for work or personal skills)
- Tea and coffee (and sometimes even Tim Tam biscuits!)
We take time
We take time to get to know our participants and what they want. Sometimes people know what they want when they come to us and sometimes it takes time.
We don’t put pressure on participants and encourage them to take one step at a time so the experience is relaxed and productive.
Participants decide
Participants decide how often they come for appointments and how long they stay at each appointment. They decide what it is they want from the time they spend with us.
We view our job as doing whatever our participants see as most useful in helping them get the things they want. They are the expert in knowing what is best for them and we follow their lead.
This program is available from Relationships Australia (SA)’s Elizabeth and Ridgehaven offices. Participants need to have Centrelink referral to be eligible.
Hearing and language interpreters are available upon request.
