Early Intervention Services - Canberra & Region
The Canberra Early Intervention Service is a collaboration between Relationships Australia Canberra and Region, Catholic Care Canberra-Goulburn, and Marymead Child and Family Centre with funding from the Australian Government.
The Early Intervention Service (EIS) is designed to assist families in the prevention of family break-down. There are three strands of service available:
- Education and Skills Training
- Specialised Family Violence Service
- Men and Family Relationships
Family Relationships, Education, Skills and Training (F.R.E.S.T.) at Catholic Care
F.R.E.S.T. is our newly funded program under our Early Intervention Service. Our aim is to provide parents with strategies to build healthy relationships and to manage conflict in the family. We do this by regularly running skill-based courses at the Family Relationship Centre in Woden as well as by providing one-on-one parent coaching at our Catholic Care Office in Red Hill. Bookings are essential. For further information please contact us at Catholic Care on (02) 6162 6100
Specialised Family Violence Service
Under the Early Intervention Service, Relationships Australia offers a free counselling service and an affordable education program for people affected by family violence.
- Individual counselling is available at Relationships Australia, Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm. To enquire about this service, please phone our reception staff on (02) 6122 7100.
- Anger Management Groups for Men and Women are held on a regular basis throughout the year. See Family Violence Prevention - Canberra & Region
Men and Family Relationships
Under the Early Intervention Service Men and Family Relationships Program, Marymead is facilitating educational groups to assist fathers to understand and effectively respond to strong emotions to improve their relationships with children and partners. The groups help fathers to develop communication and relationship skills, positive parenting techniques and an understanding of the role-model impact their behaviour has within the family environment. Group programs cover both pre-set material and topics raised by participants that are applicable to their particular circumstance.
To enquire about this service, please call Marymead Child and Family Centre on (02) 6162 5851.
