Aftercare Resource Centre - QLD
ARC is a specialist service to support the needs of former children in care.
Did you grow up in "out of home care"?
As a child, were you separated from your family by the State of Queensland and placed in an institution (orphanage), youth detention centre or foster care?
The 1999 Forde Inquiry into the Abuse of Children in Queensland Institutions found that many children who were placed in church or government institutions and foster care have previously felt and often still feel:
- abandoned
- neglected
- isolated
- confused
- unwanted
- unloved
- worthless
- abused.
The Forde Inquiry Report into Abuse of Children in Queensland Institutions recommended the establishment of a service to support the needs of former children in care. Relationships Australia (QLD) provides this service at ARC (the Aftercare Resource Centre) with funding from the Queensland Department of Communities.
ARC is a specialist service working ONLY with the former resident community. We understand how your childhood experiences may be impacting upon you now. We can work with you to address:
- relationship issues
- parenting concerns
- grief and loss
- reconnecting with your family of origin
- "putting the pieces back together" in terms of who you are and where you come from
- accessing previously denied opportunities including education.
ARC is located at Lotus Place, 26 Merivale Street, South Brisbane and you can telephone the service on (freecall) 1800 501 560. For more details visit the ARC website or email: ARC
