Aftercare - NSW
Aftercare services in New South Wales assist and support people who, as children, have been in care in New South Wales.
There are two Aftercare Services currently available in New South Wales, one for young people aged 16-25 and one for people over 25 years of age.
Aftercare Resource Centre
The ARC is a service for young people between the ages of 16-25, who have been in out-of-home care, and need assistance in living independently. In New South Wales, the ARC covers the Western Suburbs and Northern Suburbs of Sydney and the Central Coast.
The ARC can support young people with:
- getting a place to live
- support for court appearances or help reading your file
- referral to health services, family support or other services
- applying for social security, technical and further education (TAFE) courses or a job
- someone to talk to about your family or your care experiences
- working out what your needs are now
- working out what you will need and what you want to do in the future.
We can also advocate for you to access legal advice, financial counselling, therapy services, groups and other financial assistance.

ARC Support Service
The ARC Support Service is a specialist service funded to support people who, as children, have been in care in New South Wales.
The service is available for people over the age of 25 who would like assistance dealing with issues which have arisen because of their care experiences.
Our counsellors have experience in working with care-related issues and will help you access the assistance you might need. The ARC counsellors can help with:
- accessing your file or other records
- supporting you while you read your file
- referring you to a counsellor near to where you live
- referring you to legal and other services
- supportive listening.
