Celebrating 60 years

last modified 04:05pm 09 June 2009

The 60th anniversary of Relationships Australia was party time with a look over the shoulder to see how far we - and Australia - have come.

Reflections and reminiscence were aired firstly in a public forum, on ABC radio in Sydney, and secondly in private, at a function at the Powerhouse Museum.

Six decades of evolution were under the spotlight of ABC presenter Richard Glover in a one-hour live broadcast “Changes in the Social Landscape over 60 Years”.  Socially, Australia has changed enormously in that time, and we looked at our attitudes to divorce, marriage, contraception and even the rise of individualism. These are just a few of the social changes that have had a significant impact on our relationships.

The party which followed at the Powerhouse Museum continued the reflection and celebration in an historical setting, surrounded by vintage transport of all types in the Transport Hall.  Social commentator, Hugh Mackay shared his appreciation of the organisation and insights into the  social context of our work.
